27th WIJC Conference recap
The 27th annual Women in Criminal Justice Conference was held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel. This year’s theme was “Paving the Way for Women in Criminal Justice: Lasting Impressions.”
The event brought together influential female professionals from around the region for networking and insightful presentations on various pertinent topics.
The event was kicked off by Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. A highlight was the keynote address by Linda Melconian, Assistant Professor of Practice in Public Service and Healthcare Administration at Suffolk University. Melconian, a trailblazing former Massachusetts state senator, shared her wealth of experience and historic achievements.
Hampden County Sheriff’s Office Assistant Superintendent Colleen Stocks chaired the Women in Criminal Justice Committee, with Dr. Patricia A. Murphy, retired Assistant Superintendent, serving as honorary chair.
“This conference was a pivotal moment for celebrating the remarkable contributions women have woven into the fabric of the criminal justice system," said Sheriff Nick Cocchi. "It was a time for professionals to come together, draw strength from each other, and marvel at the strides they’ve collectively made, opening doors for women everywhere.”
