The Hampden County Sheriff's Office is proud to feature its Mounted Patrol Unit, a vital component of our community engagement and public safety efforts.
Our Equine Partners
Our stable is home to several well-trained horses, each selected for their temperament and suitability for patrol duties. These horses undergo rigorous training to prepare them for various environments and situations, teaching them to remain calm and responsive during patrols and public interactions. In 2022, our newest additions—Billy, Gunner, Wilkey, and Chase—were introduced to the unit, enhancing our capabilities and presence in the community.
Community Engagement and Events
The Mounted Patrol Unit plays a pivotal role in fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. Each year, our unit actively participates in numerous events, including:
Patrols: Enhancing public safety through regular patrols in parks and urban areas, and deployment to protests and demonstrations.
School Events: Educating students about law enforcement and the role of mounted patrols.
Parades: Showcasing our commitment to community traditions and celebrations.
Ceremonial Events: Providing dignified presence at official functions and memorials.
Other Community Relations Events: Engaging with residents at various community gatherings and initiatives.
Notably, our unit clinched a first-place award among several top-10 rankings at the North American Police Equestrian Council's training conference and competition in Virginia. This achievement underscores our commitment to excellence and professionalism in mounted law enforcement.
Training and Professionalism
Our deputies and their equine partners undergo continuous training to maintain the highest standards of performance. This preparation ensures they are well-equipped to handle diverse situations, from crowd control to community outreach. Their presence not only enhances public safety but also serves as a bridge between the Sheriff's Office and the residents we serve.
Looking Ahead
The Hampden County Sheriff's Office remains committed to supporting the Mounted Patrol Unit. Through ongoing training, community involvement, and a dedication to public service, we strive to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community, ensuring a safer and more connected Hampden County for all.
